Jana Laiz believes in faeries and has been writing about them for as long as she can remember. From an experience she had on the “otherside” when she was only 12 years old, the seeds for her Celtic-American Faerie Fantasy, The Twelfth Stone were planted. Just out, The Twelfth Stone is already a finalist in ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award in the categories of Young Adult fiction and Adult fantasy and was a pick for Indie Bound’s Kids’ Winter Indie Next List. Jana is also the author of the triple Award Winning novel, Weeping Under This Same Moon, Elephants of the Tsunami, written to raise money for tsunami relief, and the co-author of “A Free Woman On God’s Earth, The True Story of Elizabeth “Mumbet” Freeman, The Slave Who Won Her Freedom. Fascinated by other cultures, Jana studied anthropology and Chinese language at University. She is a teacher, a writer, an editor, a photographer, a mom, an animal lover and keeper of pets, a sea glass collector, a musician and a dreamer. She is passionate about our beautiful planet and endeavors to make a difference in the world and to work with others who feel the same. She is honored to be the very first Writer-In-Residence at Herman Melville’s home, his beloved Arrowhead, where she will spend Spring of 2012 writing in his study. She lives in a 202-year-old farmhouse in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts with her two kids, two dogs and two cats and the occasional faerie (or so she hopes).
